SUNRISE ON THE RIGI AND A CROSSING OF THE ALPS
AWAKEN ON THE RIGI AND IMMERSE YOURSELF IN TRADITIONS AND ALPINE LIFE
AWAKEN ON THE RIGI AND IMMERSE YOURSELF IN TRADITIONS AND ALPINE LIFE
The Rigi, known as the ‘Queen of the Mountains’, owes its reputation to its imposing silhouette and its unique panoramic view over 13 lakes and the Alpine sea. Goethe and Queen Victoria praised its beauty in their writings, and Mark Twain made the Rigi legendary with his humorous description of a sleepy sunrise.
Early in the morning, a special train takes you up to Rigi-Kulm, where, weather permitting, you will experience an unforgettable sunrise over the Alps. After breakfast, we set off on a leisurely hike along the Panoramaweg trail to Alp Chäserenholz. In the small alpine cheese dairy, you can watch the master cheesemaker at work and learn how meadows, cow’s milk and time shape the flavour of the alpine cheese.
A minibus awaits us in the valley to take us south across the Alps. The journey leads to Andermatt, over the Teufelsbrücke (Devil’s Bridge) and up to the Gotthard Pass (2,090 metres above sea level). There, a magnificent panorama opens up before us, stretching all the way to the lower Ticino. We then continue along the old Tremola Road, an impressive architectural monument that winds its way down along overhanging rock faces and tight bends along the Gotthard massif. We’ll take breaks and photo stops at the viewpoints.
The evening is yours to spend as you wish.
