Day 6 – Lugano: Lakes, mountains and Mediterranean lifestyle
AWAKEN YOUR SENSES IN TICINO'S
HIDDEN PARADISE
A WORLD OF ELEGANCE, LAKESIDE CHARM AND ITALIAN LIFESTYLE
In Ticino's largest city, city flair blends with Italian dolce vita by the lake and under palm trees. Let yourself be carried away into a world of the rich and beautiful and enjoy the unique atmosphere that this city has to offer.
In Lugano, the clocks tick differently, more slowly. A stroll along the lake and through the parks awakens a zest for life that is only found in the most exclusive places in Italy. A funicular takes us up to Monte Brè, where we visit the artists' village and enjoy spectacular views of the lake and mountains. We enjoy la dolce vita in Ticino with a cappuccino under the palm trees.
The bus takes us to Gandria, the last village before the Italian border. The picturesque fishing village with its narrow streets, colourful houses and the 16th-century Church of San Viglio invites you to take a stroll. In a traditional grotto, we enjoy a classic Ticino menu – perhaps a risotto with osso bucco and a glass of local Merlot. There is time for a stroll through the narrow streets with their beautiful shops.
We walk along the Olive Trail, or "Sentiero dell'Olivo" in Italian, a 3.3 km long hiking trail that connects Gandria with Castagnola. The trail takes us along Lake Lugano, fragrant olive groves and beautiful gardens. In Parco San Michele, you can enjoy a moment of tranquillity with a magnificent view of San Salvatore. Free evening for shopping, dining and nightlife in Lugano.
